FLAGLER STREET BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT - DOWNTOWN MIAMI

Downtown Miami’s Historic “Main Street” Reimagined: A Multi-Phase Streetscape Transformation

Project Description

The Flagler Street Beautification Project is a landmark, multi-phase urban infrastructure initiative by the City of Miami, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), and the Flagler District BID, designed to restore Flagler Street’s role as the historic heart of downtown — while elevating it into a world-class, pedestrian-centric corridor.

Spanning from Biscayne Boulevard to NW 1st Avenue, the redesign transforms a formerly under-utilised urban thoroughfare into a “festival-style” street that balances vehicular access with full sidewalk-level pedestrian experience. The strategy includes raising travel lanes to the same grade as sidewalks (creating a curbless shared space), extreme widening of pedestrian zones, new shade trees (70 + Live Oaks), upgraded LED lighting, public-art integrations, flexible plazas, café and dining zones, and full utility/underground infrastructure renewal.

From a development advisory standpoint, this project highlights the full lifecycle of urban redevelopment: from programming and conceptual design, through multi-agency approvals and stakeholder coordination, to construction phasing and street-level activation. Key phases opened in 2021-22 (Sections A & B) and the remainder are anticipated through 2026.

For KMC Build, our involvement in assembling consultant teams, coordinating material and hardscape selections, working with the City and DDA to secure alignment, and overseeing contract and funding milestones for this downtown flagship project underscores our capabilities in large-scale infrastructure, public-realm, and mixed-use urban development.
